As promised! C3D 2008 New stuff......

Now for C3D……. Where do I start! There is so many things to talk about! First one is go thru the What’s new in C3D, you know that screen we see when we first start C3D 2008 for the first time. You know the one you always click ignore to latter! Well now is latter. Stop and go thru it! Or read yesterday Blog and do this at a lunch and learn for you company. This will be the best thing possible……… Go ahead. I dare you tell you boss to order some pizzas and set up the projector in the conference room and do it!

But below is a little list I made up about 2 weeks ago for our first road shows we did in Rochester and Edina. And this is not everything!

New stuff:

1.) New Alignment and Profiles Wizards

2.) Drafting stuff

a. Line and curve menus (from LDT)

b. Curve Calculator

c. Line best fit Entities

d. Arc Best fit

3.) Points

a. Better properties menu

b. You can now rotate your points by gripping

c. You can now use a standard copy command for points, new popup to answer the what is now the point number to be?

d. You can now add manually created points and any ascii imported points to a survey database

4.) Surface Data

a. Surface data can be extracted from block attributes

b. Move AutoCAD text and entities to an elevation

c. Project Block onto a surface. I.E. 3D trees

5.) Survey Point Enhancements

a. Can now convert standard points (ASCII pts) to survey points (Database)

b. Survey points can now be reference by name and not number

6.) Survey Network

a. tooltips are now used with survey points and structures

b. Browse to supporting data from a point

7.) Alignments and profiles

a. layout toolbar stays visible

b. Profile layout bar includes from entities command

8.) Assemblies

a. 6 New subassemblies

b. Subassemblies are now .NET ( FASTER)

9.) SuperElevation – Outside lane Breakover

10.) Baseline Frequencies for all

a. New annotation workspace

a. Labels are now part of the standard labels menu

b. Contour Multi interval

18.) Profile view Wizard – NEW

a. Totally new wizard

b. Split profile views

c. Multiple Profile views at one time

d. Style editor is more robust

19.) Sections

a. Plotting of multiple sections easier more options

b. Volume tables are now added to section views

c. ROW text/labels can now be added to section views

20.) Pipe Networks

a. Spanning labels for more than one node

b. will show in profile and section view crossing pipes

c. Pipes and Structure tables

21.) VAULT

a. Project templates i.e. additional folders

b. Data Shortcuts are now permanently added

a. Feature lines with arc

23.) Corridor

a. Extraction corridor lines in a curve give a true arc.

24.) Plan & Production

a. Creates Plan and Profile sheets from a alignment and profile

b. Export these too there own separate dwgs.

25.) Google Earth

a. Import and export to Google Earth

26.) Vault

a. Vault now includes new version of the vault server that has no limit to the number of concurrent users!

b. Vault database size is now increased to 4 gigs instead of 2 gigs.

c. Your newly created plan and profiles sheets are now added automatically to vault when created.

27.) Survey

a. As stated above, imported points can now be added to the survey database.

b. Points brought in by a field book and added to a survey database can now be unlocked and manually manipulated. And reset if needed.

c. New undocumented utility will allow you to move and rotate a survey network. Nice!
