Checkout your subscription website for the new and updated Subassembly Composer tool! Even though is it designed to create subassemblies you can really use it to build your whole assembly.

So run and go get it now! Works in both 2011 and 2012, if you have not installed it before you will need the corresponding Support pack, I would load it first.

We now have available too subscription users a new and fully functional......Subassembly Creation tool! This is not the same one that was available on the Autodesk labs, but a whole new one that can do so much more. One big one is that it does shapes and is much more intuitive....... I'll be blogging more about this in the future so stay tooned! And it will work in both 2011 and 2012 of Civil 3D!

Do you have a subassembly you need created? Something that the current subassembies just can't do? If so send me a dwg with a sample typical section and I'll see what I can do. I have access to a tool that can create these but I need some real life sections to test it on.

Why is that? Just really busy out seeing my customers and getting them up to speed learning C3D! Seems like a bottom less pit of students that still need to learn C3D! Don't mean to make it sound like a bad thing but I have been just amazed with how many new students both myself and Doug have trained this year! It's good to be busy! (As most can see I like !'s)

Now for what is happening now and what will be happening soon!

First I want all of my readers to go to the below link and please put a vote out there for two of my class proposals for this years Autodesk University, I missed out on last year and would hate to loose out again on this year! I have so new and great things I want to share to the WOrld of Civil 3D and not to just the upper great plains and MN!

Now for what is about to happen!

The dates are not set in stone nor are the places but we are real close to nailing down our 2012 Roadshows dates and locations! If you saw us last year you will probably be on the list again this year and we are thinking of adding one or two more towns we have yet to venture too in the past! So stay posted and I will let you know exactly when and where as soon as I hear from the guys upstairs!

Now for 2012 products you should be getting a notice any day now on the new release of all 2012 products not just C3D, if you don't hear anything by the end of April go our and check your Autodesk Subscription website for the download link. As like last year you will not be getting a DVD in the mail but will need to either download your new version or put in a request for a DVD on the subscription website.

Keep you eyes open and your email spam boxes checked to the next newest and greatest version of 2012!

I had a funny feeling about this one! I hadn't checked for like weeks and then just thought hay what the heck.....

Please read the below thread on the Civil 3D newsgroups, it appears that there might be an issue with some graphics cards and this service pack, my suggestion would be to wait a week or so and let Autodesk cure the issue and send out a new SP1.1, no guarantees but just a guess.

Good news/Bad news - new service pack for 2010 is out......now the bad news

Yes they have come out with a new sp3 service pack for Civil 3D 2010. But the bad news is that if you have installed the SAP you will need to uninstall C3D 2010, apply the new SP3 and then download the newer version of the SAP (that no one had any idea was new) and then install it.

So if you have a lot of machines in your office al they all have the SAP install then I would suggest reading the readme file (by the way the readme file has the install process backwards) to see if there are any fixes that are really important to you to want you to go through this huge headace!

Hydraflow Storm Sewer File import and export This provides a level of interoperability with your current Hydraflow models, and with AutoCAD Civil 3d. The Import and Export to STM commands will provide the Stand-alone product the ability to build projects in Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA for short) and return the final design back to the Civil Information Model. The help file contains the Import and Export Assumptions, so please check out page 478 in the User Guide. Actually, please read the whole document. Well, not all at once.
EPA SWMM version 5.0.018 One of the engines running this is the EPA SWMM engine. So far, this is the latest engine from the EPA. This also means that this can import SWMM and Export SWMM models, including XPSWMM models.
Multiple Storm Analysis If you have every needed to analyze more than one distribution or return period, SSA now has the ability to define different storms and batch process the analysis.
No limit beyond patience and hardware The news this year is the 64bit AutoCAD Civil 3d which allows users to build a much bigger model. As with many Hydrology and Hydraulic programs, they come with hard coded limits or license limits that make unlimited pipes and nodes too expensive. The only issue might be the 32bit program, but running a multi-year simulation works. Reporting I really like the reporting ability in the product. We can export the simple EPA SWMM formatted results, prepare Excel worksheets, Custom PDF documents, animations, graphs, and profiles.
No separate pipe sizing and Hydrology running analysis In many cases today, pipes and inlets are typically sized for the 10-year storm return event, Channels sized to carry a 50-year return flow, and storm water detention ponds sized for say a 2-year and 100-year volume. This requires different methods with different programs, a spreadsheet for inlets, or hand-calculations for overflow route to solve the entire hydraulic system in discrete parts. There isn’t a single model capable of modeling all of the elements all at once – until now and its easy to use!

The Fit and Finish release of Civil 3D 2011

Here are few more new tibbits on C3D 2011:

Corridor Enhancements:

1.) A variety of new, and some existing, corridor editing commands are now available from the Corridor ribbon tab.

For example, now you can modify corridor regions using commands available from the ribbon. These commands are still available from the Corridor Properties dialog box; however, accessing these commands from the ribbon often provides a more streamlined workflow.

The following new panels have been added to the Corridor ribbon tab: Modify Corridor, Modify Region, Modify Corridor Section, Analyze

2.) The Corridors collection in Prospector now displays the baselines associated with each corridor. Now you can view and select the baselines associated with a corridor from the Prospector, as well as from the Corridor Properties dialog box.

3.) A new setting automatically adds all geometry points of the offset target objects and offset baseline alignments into the corridor definition. This reduces the need for manual operations. Additional samples lines are automatically added to the regions at these points (One of my favorites!)

2011 is just about here! So what is going to be new?

We I have not made the complete list yet but here are a few teasers!

The big one has got to be what we have been waiting for ever since there was a Windows 64 bit operating system! Yes, we will finally get our 64bit version of Civil 3D! yahoo! Is is about time wouldn't you say! I've been running the beta for sometime now and have been very pleased with it!

Next we are getting a new Super elevations wizard and interface! The big thing here now is that they are now dynamic, so move a curve and bingo the supers adjust. Also, we are getting a new super elevation view (like section views and profiles views) we now have a super view. We have seen something like this is you added a super elevation profile band.

They have also incorporated just about all of the SAP (Subscription advantage pack) items to the software.

One other biggie is that now we are able to create a sufrace from a PT cloud. And I might add it is much faster than you could ever imagin!

More latter! We are finallizing our Roadshow dates as I write this! I do know that we are adding a new show In Rapid City, SD so if you have offices there or know someone pass it on. I will post the dates asap.

My experience with Window 7 and Civil 3D

I've been running the Windows 7 Ultimate RC 64 bit (Build 7200) since early July. And just the past week I have installed Win 7 Enterprise (Build 7600) 64 bit which is claimed to be the final build version that will be released to the public on October 22.

What I have noticed is that the Enterprise version seems to be just a bit snapper than the RC, maybe it is because I have less install and it is a new install with less overhead. Ask me in a month when I'm back to the same processes! Currently at 65.

AS for the install that was ins testing! I first started at 9:30am last Monday and by 11:30 am I had not made past the initial install window. It was telling me that it could not find a driver for my CD disk. I looked on dells website and all they had were flash updates which did me no good. So I decided to wait until 4pm for my expert Win 7 guy to come home from school. (my 13 year old son).

I asked him if he could help me and when I told him what was happening he said, dad don't you remember when we install the RC? We had to take your HD and put it in my Dell laptop and install win 7 and then move it back to your laptop and have it do the rest. I said "oh ya now I remember"........ getting old thing!

So we do just that, and in about 40 minutes bamm I'm back up and running win 7. What was cool is that Win 7 will heal itself, meaning when we install win 7 on my HD on my sons laptop with his drivers needed for his laptop everything was changed by Win 7 when we moved it back to my laptop. The driver it was missing before was no longer even a question or issue. No idea but it worked. Also found the Nvidia just came out with a new beta driver for there cards as of the 27th of August.

So the bottom line! Hire your 13 year old son for $10 and stand back and be proud! Best ten bucks I have spent in years!

All is good now and just dreading the next time I will need to reinstall win 7 when the full blown version comes out at the end of the month. "We bleed so you don't have too"
